Nepalese New Year 2066 greetings

Once again, it's a celebration time: today begins the Nepalese New Year (Bikram Samwat 2066)! New Year celebrations always reflect the hope of new beginnings which we need the most now. Lets make a resolution today that we will stand united and remain together no matter what may come! And that we shall remain committed until we have solved our problems.

The Bikram Samwat is a lunar calendar based on ancient Hindu tradition. It is 56.7 years ahead (in count) of the solar Gregorian calendar. It was established by an Indian emperor Vikramaditya. Bikram Samwat is a popularly used calendar in India whereas it's the official calendar of Nepal. The new year usually falls in mid-April of the Gregorian calendar.

It's quite normal to read the new year messages from head of the state and head of the government in Nepal. However, it was interesting to note a message by the Secretary of State of the United States on the eve of Nepalese new year 2066. It may not have any significant meaning but I felt happy after reading the message.
