An independent, indivisible, secular, inclusive, federal democratic republic NEPAL

May 28, 2008…It was not any other ordinary day, but a day they say, comes once in life time (though, not always necessarily). It was the day; my country was declared as a federal democratic republic. I never missed my country as much as I did that day. I desperately wanted to be a part of the epochal change.

Monarchy seemed to have lost its legitimacy in the constitutional frameworks after April 2006 People’s movement; which brought about a change in the country’s governance-an interim constitution was promulgated, with the king giving up power, and an interim house of representatives was formed with Maoists included. However, the whispering of King taking over the executive power again, was always around. Now, the constituent assembly has declared Nepal a federal democratic republic, people may think that there will be no more autocracy. Though only time will tell if people are correct in their belief.

Its a celebration time in Nepal. The declaration sounds like a mammoth step at this stage as Nepal turns into an independent, indivisible, secular, inclusive, federal democratic republic with sovereignty vested entirely in the people. However, the challenges ahead are huge: starting from settlement of the power sharing dilemma to actual transformation of the country into a peaceful and prosperous "inclusive" state.

At last, I wish to believe in the following lines written by Mr. Chanky Shrestha in Mysansar Blog on May 29, 2008 (the lines says that we are set to enter through the doors of republic which will be like journey towards a rosy world...).
